In the context of divorce, many women change their surname to that of their husband’s when they marry (although there is nothing to prevent them from keeping their own name). For women who have taken their husband’s surname, if the marriage comes to an end by divorce or her husband dies, they may keep their husband’s surname until they adopt a new name or revert to their maiden name.
