counsellingA counsellor may help to put matters into perspective and help someone involved in a broken down marriage to find a new way forward and to sort out unresolved feelings and emotions. Counselling may be available through your GP or through private organisations. It would be a good idea to consult with your GP first who will be able to help generally and consider whether any form of medical assistance might also be advisable. Private counsellors are listed in the Yellow Pages, there may be a list at your local Citizens Advice Bureau and Relate of organisations who provide counselling services. Counselling does not necessarily mean consulting someone on your own.
Both husband and wife can seek counselling together. This could be either
because, although things are bad, the situation is not totally without
hope and both want to try to save the relationship or, if the relationship
has broken down completely, counselling can help the parties to go their
separate ways without damaging arguments. Relate offers couples counselling
as well as similar service for individuals. |
