A Litigant in Person is a person who issues a divorce petition without engaging the services of a solicitor.

Where it can go wrong…

Applications need to be submitted, forms need to be filled in, court papers need to be completed and fees need to be paid. Get it wrong and your application could be rejected, causing frustration and delay. If this has happened to you, we recommend using our troubleshooter service to get things back on track.

How does it work?

You tell us what's gone wrong by filling in a simple questionnaire. If we believe we can help, based upon what you have told us, we will ask you to send us copies of all relevant court papers. We will review your case and explain what has happened - and why it has happened.

What happens next?

It may be that your problem cannot be solved - for example, because you are not actually entitled to a divorce on the legal grounds that you are claiming. However, at least then you would know where you stood and this would help you to decide how to proceed. Alternatively, it may be that your problem can be solved and, if this is the case, we will advise you what to do next. You will then be able to continue with your divorce petition yourself, or use our online services if you prefer.
