How our online divorce services work

Which service do you need?

You need to decide whether one or more of our online divorce services is right for you. To help, we have provided detailed explanations of the relevant law and procedures for a range of different circumstances. You can access this information free of charge, under  “Free Legal Information”.

Free registration

Before using any of our online divorce services, you need to register for free. This is a very simple process which only takes a few moments and does not commit you to making any payment. You will then be entitled to download our Free Professional Guide to Undefended Divorce, and will gain access to our questionnaires. We recommend you use an email address which your spouse cannot access. Your details will never be used unless you order one of our services.

Online questionnaire

Once you are registered, simply choose which service you need and complete the related online questionnaire, which contains additional legal advice and guidance to help you. If you decide to order a service the whole of our fee will be confirmed before you do so, and you can then pay securely online via RBS Worldpay. Your answers to our tailor-made questionnaire should give us all the information we need to advise you rapidly and effectively throughout your case. As we know it is unlikely that you will have all the information you need at your fingertips, the system allows you to add, save, return and add again to our questionnaire as often as you like, when you like. As soon as you have completed the questionnaire our service begins. To avoid delay, please complete our questionnaire fully and accurately. We welcome feedback on our questionnaires to help us improve our services.

What do we do after you order one of our services?

We advise you every step of the way, based on your answers to our questionnaire. We prepare all necessary court forms and covering letters for you to download, sign and send to the court. We explain exactly what you need to do, and when you need to do it. We tell you what court fees are payable and we explain how to deal with any queries raised by the court. We set out the legal effect at each stage of the process, and tell you what additional documents you need to provide.

Communication

Almost all of our contact with you will be by email and online via our website, although we will aways be available to speak to you by phone. You will never need to visit our office. When draft documents are ready for you to check, we will tell you by email and you will be able to access and amend them online. When final versions are ready for you to sign and send to the court, we will tell you by email and you will be able to download them securely from our website.

Litigant in Person

We will enable you to represent yourself efficiently, fully informed and stress-free as a Litigant in Person in any court proceedings. To avoid delays we will, however, arrange for all necessary papers to be sent directly to us from the court at the appropriate time.

What we don’t do

We will not contact the court, your spouse, or any other third parties directly on your behalf, since you will be a Litigant in Person. We do not provide any additional legal advice beyond the extensive Free Legal Information set out on our website - for example, advising on whether or not any service that you order is the most appropriate for your particular circumstances. If you are not able to identify which service is right for you, or if you would prefer to be represented by a solicitor, we recommend that you contact josiah-lake gardiner LLP a specialist family law firm.
