If you were married abroad, this will not prevent you from obtaining a divorce in England and Wales provided you comply with the residency or domicile requirements at the time you file for divorce. If you have a marriage certificate in a foreign language, the court requires an official translation of the document into English to accompany the original certificate. In addition, the translation needs to be notarised (or accompanied by a sworn affidavit by the translator). We can arrange professional translation services, including notarisation, from most languages.
Generally, most marriage certificates are of a standard length and we are able to offer notarised translations for £199 inclusive of VAT, any delivery charges between us, the translation company and the notary. Occasionally, it may be necessary to obtain a specific quote if a certificate is very wordy or in an unusual language. We will be able to confirm the standard price to you once we have seen a copy of your marriage certificate.
